Global Economic Turmoil Having Dramatic Effects on Capital Flows to Developing Countries
0
web.worldbank.org
-
Amidst global economic recession and financial-market fragility, net private capital inflows to developing countries fell to $707 billion in 2008, a sharp drop from a peak of $1.2 trillion in 2007. International capital flows are projected to fall further in 2009, to US$363 billion. The World Bank publication “Global Development Finance 2009: Charting a Global Recovery,” warns that the world is entering an era of slower growth that will require tighter and more effective oversight of the

'The Success of Development: Innovation, Ideas and the Global Standard of Living'

However, there is good news: the Malthusian trap of population exceeding carrying capacity seems to have been avoided globally, and health and education status are improving faster than income. This work holds

'A Rising Dollar Lifts the U.S. but Adds to the Crisis Abroad'

Bad as the economy is in the United States, it appears to be worse in much of the rest of the world. The United States looks to many hear and abroad to be a safe haven for their savings, and as a result the Obama administration may have funds to finance its stimulus packages; however, Eastern Europe and other economies may not have the money that they need.

'Developing world may need $700 billion: World Bank'
0
reuters.com
-
'Developing countries could face a financing gap of $270-$700 billion -- equivalent to the latest U.S. economic rescue package -- to help deal with the effects of the global crisis, the World Bank said Sunday. The World Bank said even at the lower end of that estimate, resources of international institutions would not be sufficient to meet the financing needs as more and more emerging and developing countries are hit.'

'Global growth in 2009 will slow to the weakest rate since records became available in 1970, the World Bank said yesterday. ''The freezing of credit markets, collapse of stock markets, large shifts in exchange rates and commodities prices and unprecedented policy actions have combined to create an extremely uncertain environment for market participants and forecasters alike,' the Bank said in releasing its annual Global Economic Prospects report in Washington. 'International trade will
